FAQs
Q. Is your reservation office located on the premises?
A. No. Our office is located in Moab. We do have a full time caretaker who lives on the property and can help you with any problems or issues. His cabin is shown on the property map that will be included in your check-in packet.
Q. Is there a convenience store or restaurant nearby?
A. The closest store or services will be in Moab. We are approximately 35-40 minutes from town using the southern route. It takes about 50 minutes to travel to Moab using the most scenic route.
Q. What is your cancellation policy in the event we need to cancel?
A. With a 30 day advance notice of cancellation, you will receive a full refund of your deposit, less a $25.00 handling fee. With a 14 to 29 days notice from the date of your arrival, you will lose your 50% deposit but will not incur any further charges. Any thing less than 14 days notice forfeits entire fee.
Q. What is your check in procedure?
A. We have a self check-in procedure. The instructions for this will be printed on your confirmation invoice at the time of your reservation.
Q. How does the early check-in / late check-out work?
A. Early check-in or late check-out times may be available on a case-by-case basis and with permission only. Regular check-in time is 3:00 p.m. and check-out is 11:00 a.m.
Q. Where is the nearest airport?
A. Moab has a small commercial airport, serving Denver, Las Vegas and Page, Arizona. The nearest larger commercial airport is located in Grand Junction, Colorado, about 100-115 miles away from Moab depending on the route you choose.
Q. Do you have cell phone service in the area?
A. There is cell phone service on the mountain although it can be spotty at times. Please refer to the property map provided to you upon check in as it shows where there is the best reception.
Q. Is there internet access on the property?
A. We have wireless internet via satellite which has always been fairly dependable. It is not quite as reliable as cable internet, but we have had no major problems with it.
Q. I was wondering if there were outside fire pits?
A. The cabins do not have outside fire pits.
Q. Do the cabins have fireplaces?
A. We have just installed brand new state-of-the-art electric fireplaces in all of the smaller (Grey Dawn, Sagewood, and Wildflower) cabins. Cedar Bend Lodge has a wood burning fireplace.
Q. What is your pet policy? Can I bring my dog? Do you know of a local dog boarding facility?
A. We don’t board pets, and as a general rule of thumb, we do not allow pets. At times, we may allow pets on a case-by-case basis depending on other factors. Permission must be granted to be able to bring your pet. Some area dog boarding kennels are listed as follows:

(Pets will need to be fully vaccinated to board, vaccinations must be current. Dogs need to be vaccinated for "Kennel Cough" and you will need to bring proof of vaccinations. Advance reservations are helpful, especially around the holidays.)
Q. Do the cabins have ovens in the kitchen?
A. The individual cabin amenities are listed separately under each cabin on the website. Cedar Bend Lodge Cabin has a six burner stove and standard oven. The Sagewood Cabin has a small oven/stovetop, The Grey Dawn and Wildflower cabins are equipped with a griddle and a hot plate. All of the cabins have microwaves. There are also BBQ grills (gas - propane included) on all of the cabin porches.
Q. How big is the BBQ grill in the Cedar Bend cabin?
A. The bottom rack is 49” wide, 19” deep, and the top rack is 49" wide, 8" deep.
Q. Do we need to bring our own dishes?
A. Everything you need for cooking is provided, such as pots, pans, toasters, coffee makers, etc. You do need to make a COMPLETE list of the items you will need (food, ice, beverages, etc.) so as to ensure that you have everything you will need during your stay and for when you do your shopping prior to your arrival. REMEMBER the nearest grocery or convenience store is at least 35 40 minutes away.
Q. Do you have a laundry room onsite?
A. Cedar Bend is equipped with a washer and dryer. Laundry soap is not provided, so remember to bring your own soap, drier sheets, etc. The smaller cabins do not have a washer/dryer or access to laundry facilities.
Q. How do the outside showers work? Are they equipped with hot water?
A. All of the smaller cabins (Grey Dawn, Wildflower and Sagewood) have outside showers. They are attached to the cabin with a privacy walkway and do have hot and cold water. The outdoor showers are available for use during late spring, summer and early fall.
Q. Do the cabins have air conditioning?
A. Cedar Bend has central air conditioning. The smaller cabins have window units.
Q. What is the elevation of the Ranch?
A. Approximately 8,000 feet
Q. Are the cabins cleaned daily?
A. Whispering Oaks does not have daily maid service. Guest cabins with extended stays and/or larger groups will be stocked with additional linens, toilet paper, trash bags, etc.
Q. Are we allowed to have an RV or two at the Cedar Bend cabin for additional friends/family to stay?
A. One RV may be acceptable on a case-by-case basis with permission only.
Q. Is there other camping nearby?
A. We do not have overnight camping available on the property but Lakes Warner and Oowah are within 5 miles (15 minutes on the mountain roads) and there are other camping / tent sites nearby in the La Sal Mountains. For more information, check the website listed below:

Q. Do your rates change in the winter?
A. No, our rates remain the same the year around for all of the cabins.
Q. Can you tell me if it is likely that the road will still be snow packed in April?
A. Since we are in the mountains, it is possible we could still have snow even in May or early June. However the La Sal Loop road is plowed by the county and we plow our private drives, so the roads are usually in good shape.
Q. What are the temperatures like in July and August?
A. July, August and September are typically warm during the day (80 90 degrees) yet still cool off in the evenings. We are on the mountain, though, and the weather may change quickly… As a rule the temperatures are usually about 10° lower than the temperature in Moab.
RECREATION Oriented questions….
Q. What do you have in the way of fishing poles, golf clubs, croquet sets, etc. for the grassy areas and the ponds? What activities are available?
A. These are all items you are free to bring with you when you come. We don’t stock or rent these types of items. You may bring a badminton or croquet set for lawn activities. There are horseshoes and a pit at the Cedar Bend Cabin.
Q. Can you fish in the ponds? If so, what kinds of fish are stocked?
A. You may catch and release fish (trout) in the ponds.
Q. We want to bring our 4-wheeler and jeep out with us. I know that Moab is known for its ATV and jeep trails, can they be accessed from your property, or do they have to be driven to? Can ATVs be ridden on the 50 acres you have there?
A. There are trails all over in the nearby mountains. You may have to go on the La Sal Loop road for a mile or two to get to them. You are free to ride around the property as long as you are respectful to the other guests. Driving fast or recklessly is NOT allowed on the premises.

Q. We are anxious to visit Arches and the Canyonlands…how far are they from the cabins?
A. The entrance to Arches National Park is just a few miles north of Moab on Hwy 191. Canyonlands has three different sections with entrances both north and south of Moab and covers a large area. To see all of the areas of the Canyonlands Park would take several days. Q. We are hoping to do some star gazing while we are at the ranch. Can you tell us what the views are like on the mountain?
A. The skies in our area are known as “dark skies” and the star gazing is spectacular. Many of our guests have mentioned their delight and wonder at the celestial views from our cabins.
Q. What are the conditions for cross-country skiing?
A. During the winter, it is a beautiful, serene area for all sorts of winter activities, including cross county skiing or snowshoeing.
