Beginning Tuesday, July 22, 2025, the Loop Road rehabilitation will begin paving new asphalt above Hardgrave Road. The road will be closed daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and access will be available from Castle Valley. Motorists can access above Hardgrave Road before 8:30 a.m., but after that, vehicles will be turned around.

The scenic and paved (rehabilitation completed last year) Castle Valley route is construction free and open 24/7 (allow an hour for drive time to/from Moab). Although beautiful with many great opportunities for spectacular views, the Sand Flats route is less distance than the Castle Valley route but is a gravel road with more switchbacks (also, allow an hour for drive time to/from Moab). We don’t recommend Sand Flats if you’re pulling a trailer.
We are hopeful that the paving will be completed by or before August 7th or 8th, but we’ll keep you posted here on our website with any changes so that you may plan accordingly!
